Lauterbrunnen is situated in one of the most impressive valleys of the Alps, between gigantic rock walls and high peaks. With 72 roaring waterfalls and secluded valleys, flower-filled alpine meadows and remote mountain hotels, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of Switzerland's most important nature reserves.

"Lauter Brunnen" - the name of the village alone evokes the uniqueness of this landscape: the Lauterbrunnen valley has 72 waterfalls. The most symbolic is the Staubbach Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in Europe, which cascades from a rock wall nearly 300 meters high. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who visited the valley in 1779, found inspiration in these roaring waters to write his famous poem “Gesang der Geister über den Wassern”.

In the heart of the "Schwarzer Mönch" mountain, hidden behind an impressive rock wall, the Trümmelbach waterfall offers equally majestic views of nature. Nearly 20,000 liters of water per second flows along ten waterfalls of glacial origin with a total height of about 200 meters. You can only attend this show in the summer, by taking the elevator in the tunnel.

Lauterbrunnen Village (795m) is the starting point for the most famous tourist destinations in the Jungfrau region. Railroads connect Lauterbrunnen to the sunny terraces of Wengen on the eastern side of the Lauterbrunnen valley and Kleine Scheidegg, where you change trains to climb the Jungfraujoch.

On the opposite side is Mürren, a holiday resort, accessible from Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg. Departing Stechelberg, the cable car takes you to the top of the Schilthorn, at 2971m, famous for being the filming location of the classic James Bond 007 series: "On Her Majesty's Secret Service".
